WHEDA CEO and Executive Director, Elmer Moore, Jr.’s Statement on Governor Evers' Budget Address

February 17, 2023

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) applauds the many proposals made by Governor Tony Evers in his 2023-2025 biennial budget to address the need for more affordable housing options in Wisconsin.

From his Neighborhood Capital Investment Fund Grant Program to the proposed $150 million Affordable Workforce Housing Grant program and the two $100 million housing rehabilitation programs, Governor Evers has listened to his constituents and is responding.

Governor Evers' budget also proposes modifying the State Housing Tax Credit program, the most effective public-private financing tool we have, to help affordable housing developments cross the financial finish line and get built.

WHEDA CEO and Executive Director Elmer Moore, Jr. released the following statement in support of Governor Evers' biennial budget:

"We want to thank Governor Evers for his continued commitment to providing workers and their families with safe, stable housing and building thriving neighborhoods. Housing is an important and fundamental need for families to be successful.

We welcome the opportunity to implement and expand robust rehabilitation programs that will help bring back to life some of the aging housing stock that requires reinvestment to build and maintain value.

We look forward to working with Governor Evers and the Legislature to ensure we properly address the current affordable housing shortage and build thriving communities throughout the state.”
