WHEDA and League of Wisconsin Municipalities launch new partnership - Collaboration supports growing need of communities

March 28, 2017

The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) and the League of Wisconsin Municipalities (the League) are joining together in a new partnership designed to help municipalities learn more about and gain access to WHEDA financing tools.  The partnership will allow WHEDA leaders opportunities to understand the challenges and visions of communities across the state.

“I’m delighted about this exciting collaboration that’s a natural fit, given that both WHEDA and the League prioritize affordable housing and economic growth,” said WHEDA Executive Director Wyman Winston. “From WHEDA’s perspective we very much look forward to offering financial services and products that will meet local needs in Wisconsin even more effectively in the future.”

“One of the ongoing priorities of the League is to identify partnerships that will help Wisconsin’s cities and villages succeed, and this is a winner,” said League of Wisconsin Municipalities Executive Director Jerry Deschane. “The League will work with WHEDA and our members to bring WHEDA’s resources to communities all over the state and I’m confident our cities and villages will see tremendous benefits.”

As part of the strategic partnership for 2017, WHEDA and the League will co-host a session for local elected officials at a League conference specifically focused on resources available to support affordable housing and economic development. They will also co-host regional listening sessions and roundtables across the state for local elected and administrative leaders. WHEDA Business & Community Engagement Officers will assist the League in advancing affordable housing and economic development opportunities.

The League of Wisconsin Municipalities was created in 1898 to help Wisconsin cities and villages share ideas and learn from one another, to train and provide information to the people elected and appointed to govern those cities and villages, and to advocate on their behalf with the Wisconsin Legislature, Governor and state agencies.

For 45 years, WHEDA, as an independent state authority, has provided low-cost financing for housing and small business development in Wisconsin.  Since 1972, WHEDA has financed more than 84,000 affordable rental units, helped more than 122,000 families purchase a home and made more than 29,000 small business and agricultural loan guarantees.  For more information on WHEDA programs, visit wheda.com or call 800-334-6873.
