WHEDA Statement on 2024 State of the State Address

January 24, 2024

MADISON, Wis. — Governor Tony Evers last evening spoke about the generational workforce challenges facing Wisconsin, highlighting one of the largest investments in affordable housing in state history as a major accomplishment.

The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) is charged with administering the legislatively directed housing funds. WHEDA CEO and Executive Director Elmer Moore, Jr. released the following statement in support of the Governor’s plans to move forward in 2024:

"Like Governor Evers, I have traveled around our great state and heard countless times about the overwhelming and inescapable need for more affordable housing to serve the needs of our workforce, our children, and our seniors.

We are energized by the efforts that have already taken place with the aid of legislators bridging partisan divides to make important and much-needed investments in housing. We are working diligently to implement well-developed programs promptly. Recently, we completed the first funding cycle for two of the four new programs and will soon make an award announcement.

I thank the Governor for his attention to housing as a core human need and for fighting for the housing resources the people of Wisconsin deserve.”
