Madison - Diane House, economic development director for the Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council (GLITC), has been appointed to serve as a member of the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) Board of Directors.
House’s experience includes over 25 years working with the tribes in Wisconsin in various policy and strategic initiatives. She is currently serving her second elected term as an Appellate Court judge for the Oneida Judiciary and as a pro tempore judge for Wisconsin Tribal Courts. She has extensive board of director experience having served as board chair for Bay Bancorporation, board treasurer for Oneida Airport Hotel Corporation and board vice chair for the Oneida Land Commission.
“Ms. House’s multifaceted background with diverse tribal nations and her loan committee experience while serving on the Bay Bancorporation and Oneida Land Commission boards will bring vast insights and strength to WHEDA’s Board of Directors,” said WHEDA CEO Joaquín Altoro. “As we work to cultivate equitable affordable housing and economic opportunity for the people of Wisconsin, we look forward to Ms. House’s valuable contributions.”
House has a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in economics and sociology, an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and is currently a 2021 Ph.D. candidate in business management from Capella University-Minneapolis. In her current role as economic development director for GLITC, she has supported Wisconsin tribes and tribal corporations with identifying their economic development priorities and implementing key business strategies.
“Part of my work involves helping Wisconsin tribes access local, state, and federal economic development resources,” House said. “I look forward to leveraging WHEDA’s affordable housing and economic development mission to help Wisconsin communities and tribal nations to grow and thrive.”
WHEDA board members include the Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Administration (or designee), the CEO of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, and six public members nominated by the governor and appointed by the state senate. In addition, two state senators, one from each party and selected by senate leadership, and two state representatives, one from each party and selected by assembly leadership, also serve on the WHEDA Board. Members serve staggered four-year terms.
