How are tax bills and other assessments handled?Top of Page

Each year, on or before December 20th, WHEDA will send you a check for the amount escrowed for your property taxes.* This check will be made payable to you and your taxing authority. You must send WHEDA a copy of your tax bill. A paid receipt is not necessary.

From time to time your municipality may decide to make improvements to your property, e.g., installation of a new sewer system, replacement of curbs, gutters or sidewalks. You should pay these special assessments, which will appear on your tax bill, directly.

If you find it impossible to meet these expenses, we will pay for them from your escrow account and adjust your monthly payment accordingly.

It is your responsibility to make sure real estate taxes on your property are paid in full each year.

*Please note, if you live in the City of Madison or Milwaukee, WHEDA pays your real estate taxes directly to the appropriate taxing authority. (You will not receive a tax check from us.) Therefore, there is no need to send us a copy of your tax bill.
