How you have paid your debts is an important indicator to lenders of how you will repay your loan. If you have credit problems, or feel you need help managing your budget to prepare for Homeownership, you may want to contact a credit counseling agency.
These agencies are primarily community-based nonprofit groups that specialize in pre- and post-purchase Homeowner education and credit counseling. They will work with you to develop a plan to repair your credit, and help you start a savings plan for the down payment money you will need when you are ready to purchase your Home.
Credit counselors in the Gateway to Home Ownership network provide expanded credit repair assistance and Homebuyer education enabling first-time Homebuyers to purchase a Home with an affordable WHEDA Home Loan. Using Gateway to Home Ownership is a simple process with many value-added benefits.
Home counseling agencies in the Gateway to Home Ownership network can provide the Homebuyer education required for WHEDA's Rural Initiative Down Payment Assistance program and Partnership Neighborhood Initiative Down Payment Assistance Program. If you do not have a credit counselor in the Gateway to Home Ownership network near you, check with any of the other counselors listed here as many of them provide face-to-face education.
